Like most high-end wheelchairs, the Raz-SP (Self Propel model) rehab shower chair offers fore/aft rear wheel adjustment. The Raz-SP is normally shipped with the axle plate positioned under the back posts to provide a high level of rearward stability. In order to make the chair easier to propel, the rear wheels can be moved forward which transfers weight from the front casters to the rear wheels. This adjustment makes the rehab shower chair easier to turn and to propel but comes at a cost. Moving the rear wheels forward and closer to the user’s center-of-mass decreases rearward stability and makes the chair easier to tip backwards. It is highly recommended that rear anti-tippers be ordered if the rear wheels are going to be positioned forward of the factory position. The DME provider should always check to confirm the rehab shower chair is stable for the user in the environment where the seat will be used.
